Scott Mayhew

Club Director, Training Coach

Scott Mayhew has been the Training Director for Willowbrook Sports Complex since 2000. He attended the University of Texas from 1980-1984 where he majored in Marketing and played on the men’s volleyball team. In 1985 he coached Austin Juniors first 18’s team at Junior Olympics in St. Joseph, Missouri. In the same year, Scott coached the Austin Levy USAV team to the Open Nationals in Uniondale, New York. In 1985, Scott was an assistant coach at the University of Houston and founded Houston Juniors, the first multi-team junior club in the Houston Area. He directed Houston Juniors from 1985-1987 and coached its oldest team to Junior Olympics in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1986 and Albuquerque in 1987.

After working on a graduate degree in Biomechanics, Scott took over as the Head Coach at Louisiana Tech University. He was named the Sunbelt Coach of the Year in 1992 and produced numerous All-Conference Selections including the Sunbelt MVP in 1993. At Division III Southwestern University, Scott’s team won two conference championships and went to the NCAA Tournament three times in four years. Scott was also SCAC Coach-of-the-year in 1997. Scott has worked camps for two past USA Olympic coaches and was selected to coach the 2000 USA Developmental Camp in Dallas and to host the 2001 USA Developmental Camp in Houston.

Under Scott's direction, Willowbrook Volleyball has seen growth and success in a period of time unprecedented in Houston. He has had teams qualify for Nationals 11 years, including the only team in the nation to ever win two USAV national qualifiers in the same year (2002). He is credited with numerous medal finishes at both the USAV Junior Olympics and AAU National Championships, including the 2005 USAV National Championship for 13U Club.
